Building Part 2
My coven celebrates Ostara this weekend. I've been put in charge (aka volunteered) to build the Fire/South altar, but I'm suffering something of a Witch's block. I'm hoping you can offer some suggestions. Here's what I have so far:
- red/orange altar cloth
- red candle
- pieces of red coral
- a figurine of a salamander (Ok, it's actually a toy rubber lizard, but close enough.)
And I'm thinking of adding red dyed Eostre eggs and placing my athame there.
Any ideas?

Since it is spring I would add some flowers. I like the ideas you have already. You might think about a red basket with different color eggs, or you could use the basket with jelly beans and after the ritual is over pass them out to the other coven members.
Either way I am sure things will be beautiful. I hope you have a wonder Ostara..Blessing to you.
Well, it's the beginning of Spring, so why not some red and/or orange flowers? There are lots of websites that give the meanings of particular flowers, so you could take it one step further by researching what kind of flower you want to use.
There are also a number of herbs associated with Fire: cinnamon and pepper for example. Cinnamon might be nice because it's fragrant. You could burn cinnamon incense or your candle could be scented.
There are also lots of stones associated with Fire. This website has an enormous amount of information about just about every stone/gem you could imagine.
Hope that helps!
Red and Yellow and Orange flowers, Cinamon Red Hots, K-Y warming body lotiong (or whatever they are calling it), candles, candles and more candles!! (I am an aries after all, and have a strong inner pyromaniac...) A bag of Chili seasoning mix, cups of mayan drinking chocolate (complete with chili peppers), Little red orange and yellow plastic (or paper) fishies swimming around that red coral? A Barbie doll dressed in a red sarong carrying a small white doggie (My little Pele, from Matel), appropriately colored glass paperweights in the north of the Fire altar, a stick of incense in the east of the altar the mayan drinking chocolate in the west of the altar and cinamon red hots in the south of the altar...
gosh, I'm in fiery mood... hope some of this strangeness helps...
Red Hots, chili, and chocolate. You not only sound fiery, but hungry too, Pax.
Thanks for all your comments, folks.
